Background of the Study
Voting behavior is influenced by a multitude of factors, including socio-economic status, political ideology, and media consumption. In Nigeria, traditional media, such as radio, television, and newspapers, continue to hold significant sway in shaping public opinion and voter behavior, especially in rural and semi-urban areas (Olumide & Chijioke, 2023). In Malumfashi, Katsina State, traditional media outlets are vital sources of information, particularly during election periods, when they play a key role in disseminating political messages, promoting candidates, and shaping public perception about the electoral process. While new media and social media platforms are on the rise, traditional media still serve as a primary tool for political communication. This study aims to explore how traditional media influences voting behavior in Malumfashi, examining the role of media exposure in forming voting preferences and guiding citizens in making informed decisions at the polls.
